A Road Accident I Have Seen

Last week I witnessed a horrible accident at the crossroads near my college. I still tremble at the very thought of the sight. I was waiting for the green signal. Suddenly a fast riding cyclist came whizzing by and dashed against a private car coming from the opposite side. The cyclist was thrown off onto the road. His cycle was smashed out of shape. It  was learn that he was a factory worker and was in hurry as he was to go to his duty. The car driver tried to swerve in order to avoid  him and managed only to bang into a curb along the road side. He had shown a remarkable presence of mind.
People rushed to the sight of the accident. I saw that it was an awful sight. There were splinters of glass all around. The headlights of the car were completely smashed. It was Lucky that no one had sustained any serious injury. There was blood all over the cyclist’s shirt due to a deep cut  he had sustained above his eyebrow. He was stunned to speak. The car- driver also was dazed.
People helped the cyclist stand up and took him to the footpath. Soon a traffic policeman came there and took the statements of the cyclist and the driver of the car. The bystanders also were interrogated. Some suggested to take the cyclist to a hospital. The policeman stopped a rickshaw and asked him to take the wounded cyclist to the hospital. Everybody present there was of the opinion that it was the fault of the cyclist. The car driver was allowed to go. After the cyclist was taken to hospital all the people dispersed. I too came home admiring the alertness of the car- driver. Had he not shown the alertness. What would have happened the very thought of this staggers my imagination
However, I learn a lesson that we should never drive recklessly and always be careful and alert. In case, unfortunately, an accident occurs, we must render all help to the injured.
